My artwork is on display at George Bayntun in Bath!

To say that I was surprised to see my artwork in the front shop of George Bayntun this morning would be an understatement. I struggled to contain my excitement!

As you may remember if you have followed this blog, I went to the traditional bookbinders called George Bayntun to do reportage drawing for three days.
All the sketches and paintings had been done on site while spending time with the binders in the back workshop.

Now they are on display on the left as you enter the shop. (pictures taken with iphone, so excuse the quality)

















This has made my day!

I did a lil boo-boo in one of the panels. Hopefully people won't notice that consistency-FAIL.

Largest (size wise) commission to date. Process!

Well. Since this is now the largest scale I have been commissioned to do, I'm gonna have to take photos rather than scans.

It is going to be a full colour underwater and above-water scene with fantasy portraits of two people at the centre:

Cake and Hat art!

Yeah, this is kinda arty so it's gonna go on my art blog! :P

My attempt at Swedish cream-birthday cake! I grew up on this stuff.

Process!


First layer consisted of fresh berries and banana, mashed together.


Second layer is a mix of raspberry jam and whipped cream.


Forgot to take a photo of what's underneath the cream on the last layer. It's thin slices of banana.


Cover everything with whipped cream! IT'S GOOD FOR YOU.


Almost done. The dark brown things are Minstrels. The fudge sauce hearts were fail as the sauce got everywhere :( You'll see soon..

And this was the cake pretty much done! It went into the fridge overnight where the fudge sauce rebelled. >:(


Bad photo, but you can see how the sauce has just ruined the top! So for future ref: Don't use toffee fudge thingey sauce.

George Bayntun: Second visit.

Did pretty much only painting on location this time, mapping out process in the sewing room and the bindery. Will write on these images later to actually explain the different stages :P

The scanner was very brutal with these images. I'll try to scan them properly a bit later when the text has been added.


This is the process in the bindery. From trimming, to book-covers.


Here's the process in the sewing room. The books go between the sewing room and the bindery through this process, so I really should've done a painting of one single book going through the entire workshop, but hey! I didn't. Might be something for the future :P

I feel really lucky to have been granted access to one of the last family owned bookbinding workshop in the UK, namely George Bayntun!

I will be returning on Thursday for some more drawing and painting, so Skal may have to be put aside this week.
